When I got to school today, I spoke to Tha Zin about the school lunches as on some days the children are only getting plain rice. Last year's sponsor of school lunches is finished so Tha Zin can't afford to give them lunch. Some of the children on rice days will bring a little curry or soup from school in their tin cans. The other 300 just have plain rice. Can you imagine if Scottish children only got plain rice?
So Hle Bee really needs some help with lunches. I am really praying and hoping that a Scottish charity called Mary's Meals may help. They already fund lunches in 2 schools in Mae Sot and I exchanged emails with them before we left, where they said they would consider it.
How much does lunch cost? A good lunch of soup/curry with some meat and rice costs 5 baht a day ie 8 pence. One difficulty is that there are now 329 children so that is about £26 per day. The same as 16 Edinburgh school meals. So if anybody out there has any connections that can help, please let us know....
