Tuesday

...the sinks are in position. Pipes next...

I (Sheila) had a great afternoon with Grade 5. I know half these children really well because I worked with them last year so I showed them a DVD Geoff made of them getting letters from their penpals last October when Murray Forgie visited. They loved seeing themselves on the TV.
Then we found Scotland and Burma on an inflatable globe Lorna McLeod, a Forthview teacher, gave me to bring. Took a team effort to inflate it! The children watched photos from last year, photos of their friends and photos of Forthview. They saw a photo of the Dalai Lama on my slides and asked who he was, why can't he return to Tibet. We had a really interesting discussion about China, Tibet, Nepal, drawing similarities with the Dalai Lama's situation and theirs. A good afternoon's work. (Thanks to Guardian Angel interpreter of course.) While we talked, some Kindergarten children who were waiting for the tuk tuk joined us and played Lego.

Tha Zin and I are also working hard at matching up all the new children in both schools in new partnerships.

Today there was no rain, which was very nice and the weather is probably about 28 degrees so fairly bearable but always nice to come back into the air conditioned hotel room, which our Burmese friends find freezing. Tonight we went to Aiya Burmese restaurant for tea. Sheila had chicken, cashew nut and rice. Geoff had the same with shrimps and pineapple. Beautiful food again. It was, however, the first time we have left the hotel without our 'hygiene wipes'. That is of course just when you need them. "Stop! Enough!" I can hear my staff shout from Scotland! Suffice it to say one's aim is improving and all's well that ends well! Night night from Mae Sot. (Had to be a toilet story in here somewhere!)

Oh please hold the toilet stories! And after the handwashing programme for the little ones and you can't remember your wet wipes!! I am hoping there were no - ehem - repercussions :-)
